Indirect Object

An indirect object is the receiver of an action, who depends on the verb, but is not directly the one undergoing the action. The receiver of the action can take the role of someone who gets something. So, that which is given is the direct object and the receiver is the indirect object. For this case in klingon the Type 5 suffix -vaD is used.

Examples

Klingon Translation Literally
SoHvaD taj vInob. I give you the knife. "I give the knife to you."
ghaHvaD Duj je' vavDaj. His father buys him the ship. "His father buys the ship for him."

Special case: The prefix trick

To avoid the sometimes complicated construction, it is possible to use the so called prefix trick, which uses a wrong prefix:
  • taj qanob I give you the knife.
