Klenginem

Klenginem is the project of a Klingon singer from Germany. It is compound of the words Klingon + Eminem, because his first song was an adaption of Eminem's "Without Me".

History

Klenginem's first song SuvwI'pu' qan tu'lu'be', which was a Klingon adaptation of Eminem's Without Me. It is not a literal translation, but a Klingon song matching the rhyming scheme of Eminem's song.

Viral mentions

First wave

In 2009, after a YouTube user published Klenginem's first song on his channel on October 15, 2009 (1) (without his consent), the video quickly went viral, creating lots of mentions in the media.

Within few days, the video reached over 100,000 views; today (June 2020) it's at 250,000. Since the song - and especially its melody - was quite famous in the US, even Star Trek Fans sang the Klingon song in an interview about a convention. (2)

Since Klenginem had already produced a video himself which was close to be finished, he uploaded his planned video just few days later, but that additional video did not get any attention since the first one was published all over the places. This new video was mentioned later on Reddit several times (e.g. 2015(3), 2016(4)), so between 2009 and 2020, it reached a number of views of about 170,000.

Second wave

On June 18, 2020, the video appeared again on Reddit(5), but this time with an unexpectedly high reaction: The video was viewed over 250,000 times within 24 hours, raising the number of views over 382,000(6) and 7,400 likes. After few days, the wave was over and the number of views stagnated somewhere over 417,000 and close to 8,000 likes. (7)
