Grammatical clarifications

All of the following words are straight from the pen of Marc Okrand, so they are canon explanations.

odd vs. strange

  • Huj is "strange" as in unfamiliar
  • jum is "odd" as in peculiar, unexpected, fishy
  • taQ is "weird" as in bizarre, unnatural, maybe creepy
  • When talking about numbers, an "odd number" is mI' mob and an "even number" is mI' mobHa'. In appropriate contexts, the mI' could be left out.

The verb tem

tem v. deny means "contradict, disavow, claim as false" and the like. It does not mean "refuse, reject, turn down, don't permit"

In TKD, DenIb and DenIbya' are both glossed "Denebia." But that's an error. The planet name in English is Deneb, not Denebia. The Klingon, however, is correct: there are two versions of this name.

Losing things

chIl means "lose" in the sense of "misplace, be unable to find, lose track of." — "Lose" in the sense of "we've lost a lot of soldiers" is a different word.
See ➞ weS in the word section for details.

The word vItlh appeared in 2016, means "be high, great (in quantity, size, intensity)."
See ➞ vItlh in the word section for details.

vabDot was first used in Monopoly, but never translated clearly. It means something like "moreover, furthermore, even".
