SkyBox Cards

There have been a few Star Trek trading cards with Klingon text. Since they were made by Marc Okrand, they are canon. They give us lots of nice Klingon phrases.

Some of the phrases give us more questions than answers so they should be handled with a grain of salt.

SkyBox Card #26 - lurSa' be'etor je / Lursa and B'Etor.

DuraS tuq tlhIngan yejquv patlh luDub 'e' reH lunIDtaH DuraS be'nI'pu' lurSa' be'etor je.
The sisters of the House of Duras, Lursa and B'Etor, are constantly seeking a higher standing for the House of Duras within the Klingon High Council.

  • 1. The adverbial reH should precede the pronoun 'e', because adverbs usually come at the beginning of a sentence(1). It is unknown why this mistake occurs here, but one may believe that Marc Okrand was mistaken to think of 'e' here as a conjunction.
  • 2. There is a type 7 suffix -taH on the second verb, which is not allowed(2).
  • 3. It is recommended to follow the rules of TKD, at least until we know why this phrase is obviously breaking them.

#S27 - Qo'noS / Klingon Homeworld

tlhIngan wo' yuQmey chovlu'chugh Qo'noS potlh law' Hoch potlh puS. roD 'oHvaD juHqo' ponglu' neH. pa' 'oHtaH vaS'a' 'e'. tlhIngan qum waw' 'oH. yoq yIn yuQ 'oH Qo'noS'e'. yInSIp voQSIp je ngaS muDDaj.

The principal planet of the Klingon Empire, Qo'noS is usually referred to as simply "The Homeworld." This is where the Klingon Great Hall is located, the center of the Klingon government. Qo'noS is a class-M planet with an oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere.

  • The English text makes clear that juHqo' ("homeworld") is the name, hence the object of the verb pong name.
