Today is a good day to die

The frequently heard Klingon expression "Today is a good day to die" is particularly devilish to try to express in Klingon, but the phrase yielded a veritable supernova of suggestions.

Canon translation

This version was used on the back of Klingon for the Galactic Traveler(1):

Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam.
This day is good in order to die.

In ancient Klingon, the phrase was mova' 'aqI' ruStaq. These words were spoken when Kahless and Lukara started their mating ritual, and that's why the phrase in this form can be a good initial phrase for a romantic ritual.(2)

Klingon letters

The phrase is a loved motive for tattoos. This is the phrase written in Klingon letters, aka pIqaD:

hegluzmeh qaq jajvam

Other possible translations

Heghlu'meH QaQ DaHjaj.
Today is good in order to die.

HeghmeH jaj QaQ 'oH DaHjaj'e'.
Today is a good day in order to die.

DaHjaj qaS Hegh QaQmoHbogh jaj.
A day which makes death good occurs today.

quq DaHjaj, Hegh QaQmoHbogh jaj'e' je.
A day that makes death good and today occur simultaneously.

DaHjaj Heghlu'chugh, vaj QaQ ghu'.
If someone dies/died today, then the situation is/would be good.

There was some debate over whether HeghmeH should be Heghlu'meH, jIHeghmeH, or something, but later canonical examples have indicated that oblique -meH verbs are OK, at least when they modify nouns, cf. pe'meH taj cutting knife, vutmeH 'un cooking pot (KGT), ngongmeH Duj experimental ship (3).
