Nyota Uhura

Nyota Uhura is the communications officer on board the Enterprise.

Appearance

She first appeared in Star Trek: The Original Series, and was later seen in the first six Star Trek movies, as well as the three prequels, Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond.

Klingon dialogues

In Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, there was a scene where the crew of the Enterprise had to communicate with a Klingon outpost Morska. Uhura did not speak much klingon, so they had to look up the translations in several books, to avoid the universal translator to be recognized by the Klingons.

During Star Trek Into Darkness, which was a prequel, but on a different time-line, Uhura did indeed speak klingon very well. Actually she spoke most of the Klingon in the entire film.
