More Information
The history between the words jon and jonta' is based on a misusage of a Klingon line in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.
The original phrase was qama'pu' jonta' neH! I told you: only the engine! Then, the subtitles were added "I wanted prisoners" so Okrand had to adapt the meanings of the syllables to get a new but still legal construction:
As a side-kick on the filmmakers, Okrand kept the verb ma' in his dictionary with the meaning "accomodate".
